In part of opening my blog with warmth and recognition,
thought I'd dedicate this blog to two completely random topics.
Therefore you have a senseless idea of what goes on in my ever wandering mind
Enjoy :-)
Sleep...
"5 Hour" energy shots, my new modern life commodity.
For $3.25 it lives up to its name.
Drinking it is the hardest part.
That signature dry, rotten, almost alcoholic taste can leave a drag in the mouth.
Yet I need it to bring my sleeping hours back to normal.
Sick of the usual sleep at 7am wake up 3pm.
argg. a great unproductive schedule.
so to help adjust I had to not sleep for a night
then the drowsiness sets in mid-day
okay here we go,
if i sleep I'd just be going back to sleeping my same time
and that brings me back to 5 Hour energy
well despite the caffeine rush
I hope to soon get back to a productive lifestyle.
The Dark Side
Like Anakin's betrayal to the Jedis
my act of switching my operating system is in a way an act of treason
what OS you ask? lol
well like a kid staring through it on a rainy day, wishing he could play outside
(I have empathy young one)
if you haven't guessed it by now... then too bad
I'm not gonna tell you that it's Windows (XP to be specific)
What can be such a drag for prices for Apple products here on Guam?
I mean everything on Guam is 50% more than US price.
Eg.
White MacBook (2009):
US price - $999
Guam price - $1400
13'' MacBook Pro:
US price - $1,199
Guam price - $2,200
32GB iPod Touch:
US price - $399
Guam price - $699
I mean come on! I know shipping to Guam doesn't cost $300 per item
Besides, they sell out, so they're sure to get the profit.
Darn these greedy retailers.
So anyways, going back to the Dark Side
I need a laptop after my beloved iMac G5 (after 5 fluid years)
had a bad capacitor on the logic board pop with gas.
Completely unusable without a nearly $500 repair
Best buy a laptop.
I've already mentioned prices of Apple products,
so buying another Mac had passed my mom's mind of choice.
Well that's great because that only means one thing
(not including Linux)
A (gulps) PC?
Well a computer is a computer right?
umm besides the limited flaws of Mac OS yes there
is no main difference, oh that and UI and media productive tools that I constantly use
(eg. iMovie, iPhoto, Final Cut)
(I could go on with differences. But best you check the Mac video ads)
well it's better than squinting and pinching internet pages on my iPod Touch.
So a desktop is out of the question since I'm going college,
a notebook? nope a real one (umm not the one made of paper)
but the actual side of a composition note,
the mini notebooks
ergo, my next computer is Hewlett Packard's HP Mini.
For a good $500 ($200 in US, PCs are no exception to Guam's retail greed)
Cute size, like a said, height and width of a composition notebook.
Yet a comfortable large keyboard
Multimedia card slot (MacBooks only have SD)
A display suffice in size
Speakers aren't bad either (loud I mean)
Woah! Webcam? Man, Apple really is a trend setter.
I gotta turn this thing on!
XP?? umm isn't it about time Microsoft move on (Vista? or is it Mojave I believe?)
Brings me back to middle school years, that unmistakeable blue log in page
ehhh... well maybe they've made some improvements.
Where's that thing to view the webcam (awww no Photobooth)
Not bad, but it is VERY dark!
so checked some tech sites and downloaded an update
improved it pretty good.
But it definitely freezes while webcam chatting on Skype.
bummer... :-(
So might as well make the best of it
installed Safari, iTunes, and Quicktime
deleted all app shortcuts on the desktop and moved icons to the upper right hand side
of the display
In case you're wondering, yes I'm using it right now!
Guess you can say it's not that bad
For a relatively small piece of equipment, HP packed in some speed
not the best webcam or battery span, but simple processing is a breeze :-)
What does that mean for my video editing life?
Because everyone knows that editing on Windows is as easy as 1-2-3
well that part of my lifestyle is dead, but not buried.
When I'm financially set to move back to being a "Jedi" once again,
it'll rise back to life.
Besides all of this critique
I'm grateful for this notebook
Specially to my mom, I have sincere thanks for it
Thank you for buying me something I will really really need despite my constant spending.
